Resume Writing Tips: How to Write a Resume Objective
By Andrew ReedYour first thought when creating a resume, is to consider the objective; what are you hoping to achieve. This will determine how you present the information and exactly what you include.
A Resume Objective is a powerful tool that the employer can use to quickly identify key candidates.
Remember that an employer could get hundreds of resumes and by including your objective in your resume, you can get yours to the top of the list straight away.
What is a Resume Objective?
In simple terms the 'Resume Objective' is what you wish to accomplish by sending it to an employer. For example, for most people the objective is to get a particular job. For others, it may simply be to get a foot in the door of a particular organization with less focus on a specific job. And for some, the target might be to work in a particular industry for example, getting into Media or TV.
Before you complete your resume take time to review it's objective. Indeed, it maybe be that you have more than one resume each with a different objective.
How to Write a Resume Objective
It is best to include the Resume Objective towards the start of the resume. It is a short sales pitch and provided it fits with the employer's offer it will guarantee that your resume will be read in greater depth.
Include a heading called Employment Objective and under this heading include your objective as a simple clear statement. Keep in mind what you can do for the employer rather than the other way around for example:
Senior management position in Healthcare where over 15 years of experience will enhance bottom line performance
A starter position in Finance where superb analytical and mathematical skills can contribute to excellent performance
Software Manager position where 8 years project management experience and excellent delivery skills and can add to operational efficiency
It is important to remember when writing your objective not to use personal pronouns such as I, me, my etc. Write it from a third party perspective and keep it short and succinct.
Remember too that it doesn't have to be too wordy or over the top. A simple honest statement outlining what you are hoping to achieve works best.
