Career Change: How to Choose a Perfect Career
By Annette LewisSo you have had enough of your current job and are ready to change career and find that perfect life.
Yes, that perfect career; the one where you will enjoy every moment, where you will feel fulfilled and of course which will fund that luxury lifestyle you have always dreamed of.
Indeed, just how much of a reality is this? Manage search for this dream however only a few manage to actually find it. In this article I will pass on my personal tips to help you change careers and find that perfect job.
Get to Know Yourself
More often than not, if you choose a career that doesn't suit your personality you will become disillusioned and unhappy. So my first tip is to get to know yourself and what you like doing. Instead of choosing a career based on what you think you should do, find a career that fits your personality. One that really excites you, that makes you jump out of bed in the morning. Here are some ways to help you do that.
Brainstorm
Think about the jobs you have held, task you have completed well, activities you have been involved in and jot down those aspects you enjoyed most. Why were they so enjoyable? Jot down any positive feedback you received; was there a common thread in terms of the feedback? The target of this exercise is to find out what you really enjoy and what you are actually good at.
Ask friends
Sometimes your friends know you better than you do. Call a friend and talk about your plans to change career. Ask them what they think you would be good at and what career would suit you. You might be surprised by how well the can pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses.
Ask your boss
You may have an appraisal system at your current workplace which is a formal means of getting feedback on your performance. If not, why not have a quick talk with your boss or indeed your colleagues. Ask them where they think your strengths lie and where you need to develop in future.
Take a career assessment test
A great way of finding out where your talents lie is to take a career assessment test. There are several sites on the Internet which allow you to take mini tests for free before committing to any investment. They can give your powerful insights into the right direction to take and many give links to resources to help you train or get that great job.
